It does what it says it will do. you point it at something and it will tell you how hot or not it is.

I haven’t had this thermometer long. So far. it appears reasonably accurate. and the temperature readings seem to concur with readings taken using my other probe thermometer. Be mindful. however. that reflective surfaces do affect the readings. So where possible. you may need to take several measurements and average them. I haven’t. as yet. used mine for tempering chocolate. which is one of it’s uses ( or rather. will be. I’m moving shortly. so chocolate and baking must wait until I’m relocated). General checking and trials on different surfaces seems to show consistency. I threw a different make of infrared thermometer away. because it gave outrageous results. varying enormously even with a sous vide circulator. which is exceptionally accurate.
