Pug-n-play all fine and worked absolutely fine in the couple of (random) instances I have used it where I did not know up front what switch/speed was at the other end of the cable. In fact once was HP gigabit switch and just this week was a netgear hub provided for our stand by the organiser at an industry expo. No issue with speed/duplex detection.

I have a desktop that started to give web page buffering problems. Start Stop. Freezing. etc. After installing this adapter. the problem went away. Speed test shows a 923 Download/894 Upload with a Ping of 4 and 0 Jitter. Problem appears to have been the Ethernet port on the motherboard not functioning like before.
