The case is well padded and fits great in my backpack. however there is quite a bit of free space when my 13″ macbook air is inside. about 2 to 3 inches of area in length but width is about perfect. The unused space may cause a little bit of movement but should be fine. The pocket on the side works great for cables or maybe a few thin USBs but nothing too thick as its quite taught to the case and could cause damage to your laptop due to the pressure..The material on the inside seems soft enough and seems to provide enough support. it should hold up perfectly well.
