Not only does this device send HDMI video to a VGA display as advertised I was was pleasantly surprised that it passed the display device information to the PC. Specifically I plugged the HDMI input into a laptop running Ubuntu Linux with a 720p (128×720) built-in display and the VGA output into an Acer 1080p (1920×1080) LCD display. The laptop was passed the Acer model info and display specifications to the laptop and the OS configured the external display for its native resolution. Likely this would work under Windows as well though I”ve not tested that. Kudos to the Rankie engineers!Images are sharp at the higher resolution and look better than the 720p laptop screen.Note that the adapter comes with two cables one for audio and another for USB which provides power to the adapter.
